If you wish to join the Future Leaders programme, you should have the desire to lead a challenging urban school.

You may currently be a teacher in a secondary school, or you may be a former teacher who has left the school environment to work in another area of education, or outside of education altogether.

You will also need to meet the following criteria (please note these relate to the 2010 recruitment round. Revised criteria for 2011 will be published shortly):

The right to work in the UK


Hold QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)


Have 2  years management experience (in a school or another organisation)


Be rated as 1 (outstanding) or 2 (good) in  
    your most recent lesson observation (if you are currently teaching)


Be rated as good or outstanding in your most recent performance management reviewis (if you are not currently teaching)


Not be undertaking or have completed the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). Contrary to previous information, those who have completed or are currently on Leadership Pathways are eligible to apply.


Have completed the self assessment questionnaire


Be a member of the National College (can be done as part of the application process)


Be prepared to work in urban areas of the following regions: London, the North West, the West Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber, Bristol (including Swindon and Gloucester) and the South Coast.
